Student Council

Welcome to the WSI Student Council! We aim to establish a vibrant and inclusive community while advocating for the needs and interests of all students and technicians.

About us

As the representatives of the student body, our task is to listen, support, and enact positive change to enhance life at the institute.

Elena Piran is a PhD candidate in Medical Research. Her work focuses on applying molecular imaging approaches, including cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography, to resolve TRP channel structures and investigate their modulation by endogenous and exogenous ligands.

Outside of the lab, she is actively involved in improving networking and fostering collaboration among PhD students across different research groups within the WSI.

Pascale Schreier is conducting research into type 2 diabetes. For her doctoral thesis, she is investigating the role of the TRPM5 channel in the secretion of insulin by beta cells in the pancreas, and its potential as a target for a new generation of antidiabetic drugs. It is very important to her to support her colleagues. She wants them to succeed in their doctorates.

Randhwaj Pratap Singh is pursuing his Ph.D. in Medical research within the GRK 2338 program (3rd cohort), where he works on the interstitial macrophages from the lungs. He works on a project P04: Toxicant sensing by TRP channels in lungs interstitial macrophages. As a member of a student council at WSI I am actively involved in meeting and supporting his colleagues and organizing community events.

Vasco Peixoto is conducting his Ph.D. in medical research within the 3rd cohort of the research training group GRK2338 program. His research focuses on discovering the roles of the “chanzyme” TRPM7 in different cell types and tissues, whilst also evaluating new TRPM7-specific pharmacological modulation tools that can be employed in his studies. As part of the student council, he seeks to unify and bring together once more the different working groups within our institute by promoting communication and social interaction amongst his peers, whilst also searching to develop new and interactive ways to communicate our science.

Zala Serianz is pursuing her Ph.D. in Medical Research within the GRK2338 program, researching endolysosomal cation channels in lung disease. As part of the student council, she hopes to contribute to a supportive and enriching learning environment.

Ombudsperson

Stefanie Resenberger, the coordinator of our Research Training Group (GRK) 2338, plays a central role in its success. As the institute's ombudsperson, her compassion and support create a welcoming environment, making her an invaluable asset to our community.

Professor Dr. rer. nat. Ingrid Boekhoff, as the second ombudsperson, is readily available via Zoom or phone, ensuring prompt support and conflict resolution within the institute.
